The RDH Profession Grossly Misrepresented on ‘The View’

I’ve been fortunate to work closely with the dental hygiene community for a number of years, and with that, have been exposed to the tremendous value hygienists provide not only to the dental industry, but to the general population at large.

On July 6, ‘The View’ provided inaccurate information regarding the educational requirements and annual salary of dental hygienists that degraded the profession as a whole. ‘The View’ broadcasted to the American public that a college degree was not required to become a dental hygienist, and the median salary of dental hygienists was much lower than determined in 2010.

With this information, I urge my fellow Dental Geeks to share the American Dental Hygienists’ Association response to ABC’s ‘The View’ which clearly defines education data disputing the inaccurate statement projected on ‘The View’, as well as salary statistics provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

As this industry powers together, we could help the ADHA in their efforts to encourage ABC and ‘The View’ to “provide the American public with an accurate portrayal of dental hygienists and the vital role they play in Americans’ oral and total health.”

I am proud to be a part of this industry, and thank the ADHA for their impactful response and dedication to the dental hygiene profession. We understand the extreme importance of the dental hygienist and their role in many facets of oral and systemic health; it’s our mission to help the public understand, too. We are HYGIENE STRONG!
