Improve your online visibility

Believe it or not, the web is becoming a crucial factor for your dental practice.
Word of mouth is becoming less important every day, so it is time to gear up and improve your online presence.

Assuming that you already run a website for your dental practice, we have 5 valuable tips to improve your online visibility.

1) Have a Great Design
Delivering great content is every website’s goal, but it will not matter unless you have a user-friendly design. Most people visiting a website tend leave as soon as they see a poorly designed site. The user experience is important and an appealing design will increase your users’ experience on your website. You can easily improve your website by using a tool provided by WordPress. They offer hundreds of free and paid themes, ready to be installed and they do not require any coding skills.

2) Content is King
Now that you have a visually appealing and well-organized site, you need to create great content. Whether it’s the “About Us” page or the “Home Page”, the content has to be well written and unique in order to engage users. Outsourcing is a good way to instill variety in your content. By hiring a freelancer or guest blogger you will have more content to share with your audience. You can easily find people willing to write articles for you on Elance.com or Freelancer.com.

3) Start A Blog
Generating a blog is a very simple thing to implement on your dental website and it can help increase your audience traffic results. I often recommend that dentists regularly publish new articles on their blog, to keep the site timely, interesting and packed with fresh content.

But you might ask: “What should I write in my blog?”
Here is our 3-step guide to finding a topic to write about:

1. First, use the Google Keyword Planner to find a keyword related to dentistry that gets at least 300 exact searches every month. There are many “How to” keywords related to dentistry that can benefit your website. For instance, “How to remove dental tartar” or “Benefits of Electric Toothbrushes” might be good keywords for an informative article.

2. Now that you have your keyword, write a 500 word or more article. Mix your theoretical expertise with practical information to attract readers.

3. Publish the article on your blog. Use your chosen keyword in title, meta description and content. Don’t go overboard! Just use it naturally throughout the text. Try to publish articles regularly, at least once every month so your audience stays engaged.

4) Reach out
Networking is a tremendous tool to create a following. Get in contact with other dentists that are running blogs and kindly ask if they accept guest posts. If they do, send them a unique article that you wrote and ask to include a link back to your own site. This simple yet powerful link will improve your search engine visibility and will also help you create long-term relationships with other dentists.

5) Get Social
Create a profile on Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn and Twitter. Publish regular updates and feature new articles you have published on your blog. Don’t just publish long articles that your users will get bored reading, be creative!
A great example of a shareable tool is an infographic. Infographics are visual, interactive graphics that represent the information you enter. You are able outsource the creation of them and then publish them on both your blog and social networks. They are visually appealing and if they are done well, people will share it, increasing your popularity and the links back to your site.

In all, the internet is rapidly changing the way people communicate, including dentists. Being smart and unique on the internet through websites and blogs will help promote your practice and draw people as well as search engines into your following.
