Five Benefits of Digital Impressions
Dentistry has changed a lot in the past decade and it is only getting better. Taking quality impressions has always been a challenge for dentists and it makes the “lab end” extremely hard and frustrating when impressions are inaccurate and hard to read. Let’s not forget the patient and doctor can get frustrated too. With my experience in the dental lab field I have seen so many bad impressions and the cases never end up working. Impression material has many flaws. Now we all know the importance of taking clear, accurate impressions and that is why I love seeing the dental lab receive digital impressions, it just makes dentistry so much better. Every digital case that goes through the lab works, every time, without fail. If you are thinking about getting a digital impression scanner, here are some benefits of digital impressions.
1. Happier Patients
Let’s face it, patients hate impression material oozing from their mouth. Every patient I talk to has said they hate going to the dentist to get impressions because they are uncomfortable and annoying, so make your patients happier and go digital.
2. Accurate Image = Quality Restorations
Traditional impressions tend to be unclear, easy to rip after models are poured and can warp.
When you take a digital impression the image cannot be warped, ripped or unclear so whenever
I see a digital impression I know that it is extremely accurate and our lab never has to question digital impressions from our doctors.
3. Faster Turnaround Time
By sending digital impressions, creating a restoration can be done so much faster. We have done a lot of Zirconia crowns (AKA BruxZir) through CEREC Connect and we can honestly get those crowns done in the same day, if needed. Digital impressions simplify dentistry so cases can get done faster with better quality.
4. Improved Material Choices
There are a lot of useful materials out today because of digital dentistry such as e.max, Zirconia, Layered zirconia and much more. One of the benefits of taking the leap into digital dentistry is having better access to all these great materials.
5. You Are Not Alone
Once you step into the digital world of dentistry you will find that you will not be alone. There are websites, social networks and study groups you can join to increase your knowledge about the new digital world. When our lab took the leap we noticed a huge network of people excited to help us out. I couldn’t believe how helpful people were to our dental lab. If you need any help in the digital world, feel free to contact our dental lab. We love helping others and will help you with any questions.
