Fight Cavities this Halloween: Promote National Brush Day
Halloween is just a day away, and parents are worried about what their kids’ big bags of candy will do to their teeth. Tooth decay is far and away the most common chronic disease for children in the US, and as kids prepare for a night of trick-or-treating, parents are more concerned about cavities than costume choices, nightmares or stomachaches.
The Ad Council and The Partnership for Healthy Mouths, Healthy Lives, a coalition of more than 35 leading dental health organizations are recognizing National Brush Day (the day after Halloween) and playing a major role in raising awareness for the importance of children’s oral health. They created the first joint national public service campaign designed to teach parents about easy ways to help prevent oral disease. New PSAs emphasize that most parenting can’t be done in two minutes, but making sure their kids brush for two minutes, twice a day is an easier task.
You can help the cause too: Tell your patients and the parents of your younger patients about National Brush Day. You can pass along the campaign’s website www.2min2x.org, where parents can find useful information on children’s oral health and two-minute videos for their kids to watch while brushing. This Halloween, help scare off those cavities!
