Wake-Up Call for Me
An extremely fast-growing segment of my business in dental is “social media” — blogging, texting, tweeting, Facebooking… the whole gamut.
There are hundreds of thousands of sites where people from around the world talk about every topic imaginable. Dentaltown is an excellent and well-established social media site for dental professionals. These dental-related social media sites and portals help me keep up to date on what is happening in the world we work/live in.
I was recently looking for a song by an Asian artist I had heard on NPR. I googled what I could remember of the name and found an Asian pop music portal by the name of “Soompi.” On the home page of the site was a link to the member chat lounge, and that day’s topic was “Afraid to go to the dentist?”
Needless to say, I clicked and my jaw dropped at how fearful these people were of going to the dentist. Below is the link, read for yourself and draw your own conclusions. This site I refer to targets the 12- to 25-year-old Asian hipster; their comments are honest… and astute.
How can the fear of dentistry be alleviated? Don’t mean to be “doom and gloom,” but this message thread set me back a little bit in my thinking…
