While many prospective patients narrow down their dentist search through proximity and insurance compatibility, it is important for you to show that you are actively keeping yourself up to date on the latest dental procedures and technology. The best way to do so is to continue your learning throughout your career and to never dismiss the power of an ongoing education, as it is a priceless component for a resume in any professional field.

Does this mean you should be in school every year for the rest of your life?

If you plan on paying off student loans until your dying breath, maybe, but there are ways to continue your education without paying thousands of dollars. Taking advantage of your memberships and the seminars those organizations offer throughout your career will suffice. Feel free to add any certificates or training completions to your dentist resume. Remove your reservations of how significant those seminar completions may be, because whether it is a prospective patient or partner, it will be of importance to someone.

Experience is another valuable asset to your resume. When you hit milestones, it will make the amount of time you invest into practicing dentistry prestigious and recognizable to your patients. Put yourself in a prospective patient’s eyes. If you had to choose between a dentist who had just completed their residency or someone who has been practicing their trade for over a decade, which one would you choose? Typically, the dentist with 10 years of practice has an advantage since they have interacted with a wide variety of patients and developed repeat patients.

However, what most do not consider is that those fresh out of their residency will probably have more know-how about certain modern procedures as well as a much better familiarity with the latest technological advancements in the industry. As such, these could be great selling points to draw more patients into your practice!

Who Else Will Want to See My Dentist Resume?

The other types of people who may be looking at your dentist resume could be an investment banker or a prospective partner wanting to break free from a partner office and perhaps opening their own with you. The weight of your dentist resume, your personality and your future goals will be heavier here because this is your future. This is your drive.
