How many times have you had to tell your patients it may be time to replace their toothbrushes? As a patient, I know I have been told one too many times. Sadly, there are people out there that will run that toothbrush into the ground, to where the bristles are no longer standing tall.

Walking through the oral care aisle at the grocery store, most patients will skip right over the toothbrush section picking up additional toothpaste, floss and/or mouthwash. (I know I am guilty of it.) We all think it, “I don’t need to replace my toothbrush yet, I can get a little more out of it.” But do we, as patients, really know when it is time to replace our toothbrushes?

According to The American Dental Association, it’s recommended that patients replace their toothbrushes approximately every 3-4 months or sooner if the bristles become frayed with use.

Well now there is a service that mindlessly replaces worn toothbrushes for your patients! After doing some research on ways to educate patients about the importance of swapping out old brushes, The Dental Geek came across is a website devoted to creating a fun and easy way to routinely replace your toothbrush. All your patients have to do is log on to the website, choose a brush, choose how often it ships and they take care of the rest. They offer both manual and electric toothbrushes of most brand names as well as toothpaste and floss.

This website offers multiple shipping options including one for a new toothbrush 6x a year – great for patients who have periodontal disease or are prone to getting sick more often. They make it super easy to maintain good oral health.

So as your patients are trying to juggle their busy lives, don’t let them make excuses for keeping that old toothbrush around past its prime! Show them they can eliminate the guesswork of when their toothbrush should be replaced and have it conveniently shipped right to their front door with

As dental professionals, do you use any other tools or tricks to help patients remember when to replace their worn and frayed toothbrushes? We’d love to hear your tips in the comments section below!

  1. This is an amazing idea. I recommend my patients replace their toothbrushes extremely often, up to once per month, simply because of the bacterial growth and loss of efficacy that occurs with regular use.

    • Hi Parsa, we would be happy to send some promo cards to your practice for you to give to your patients for a free toothbrush. Shoot me an email with the address and I will get some sent out to you. We can also put your practice as the promo code so that it looks like it is being paid for by your practice even though its completely free.

  2. Love this! I’m really glad that websites like this, Dollar Shave Club, Bark Box, etc. are popping up. It’s great to see companies like this that have really recognized consumer needs and cater directly to them, especially in a society as fast-paced as ours, where a lot of people simply don’t have time or forget to pick these things up every few months.
