Yankee in Red Sox Territory: A Review of Yankee Dental Congress 2015

Over the past 15 years, I have only missed ONE Yankee Dental Congress. Yankee is a wonderful way to “start” my business year. I have to admit, I was heartbroken when Yankee moved to its new location, away from the Heinz…but this year, even with a blizzard that dumped 3 feet of snow on the city…Yankee Dental Congress has NEVER been better.

Organization – The show was busy and Northeastern attendees came in droves. The city of Boston did an admirable job of “moving” the snow. The city did not do a good job of telling delivery trucks that they were blocking access on all roads. Being a former Beantown resident, I opted NOT for taxicabs or uber cars – but for the “T”. The relatively new Silver Line dropped me off a block from the convention center and was truly efficient.

Registration, information, guidance, course layout, and access were phenomenal. Kudos to you, Yankee, for having the most organized and seamless dental congress I have been to in quite some time.

Offerings on the Floor – What would Yankee be without Dr. Paul Feuerstein’s “High Tech Playground”? It was the first place I went when I hit the floor and true to form, Dr. Paul was holding court. This is such a unique offering and a definite attraction for attendees and exhibitors alike!

Course Offerings – Wow! What a curriculum! Everything a dental professional could want from Advances in Oral Pathology (Karen Davis, RDH) to Key Clinical Updates (Dr. John Comisi, DDS, MAGD) to social media marketing strategies for the general dental practice (Kim McQueen, Executive Director of the American Academy of Dental Office Managers). Oh yeah, tons of coursework on implantology, sleep apnea therapy, and good ole infection control. Yankee Dental Congress 2015 offered something for everyone!

Digital Awareness – Better than a grinder with extra cheese, Yankee’s tradeshow app is/was the best I have EVER encountered or interacted with. It was like having a digital butler on hand to guide me. I loved the alerts that popped up on my phone. I loved the scheduling capability and the interactive floor plan. Yankee definitely took the lead with user-friendly technology in the dental congress arena…other big shows should follow suit!

Philanthropy – TeamSmile hosted an open-air clinic toward the back of the convention hall. It is there that I ran into my college classmate, Dr. Kristine Achille Grazioso, DMD, and Pedodontist. I got a quick hug in before she gloved and masked up. The only thing that upset me was that Dr. Kris looked like she graduated school five years ago, and I definitely look like I graduated 27 years ago.

Bottom Line – Yankee was a great show to start the year. Show specials were being gobbled up and I was especially interested in the show special that Yankee did for itself. If a practice purchased $2,500 in goods at the show, their registration for the 2016 Yankee Dental Congress would be paid for. Very Smart Yankee…but then again, all the Yankees I am a fan of…are!
